This Is Not a Place of Honor is a one-shot storytelling game about a terrible disaster and your attempts to warn future generations to avoid exploring it.
It is inspired by the Sandia National Laboratories attempt to design long-term warnings about nuclear waste.
The goal was to discourage our descendants from being harmed by our mistakes, even if the memory of the danger had faded and our language had been lost. They considered everything from pictographs to a field of giant spikes to bioengineered, glowing cats.
In this GM-less game, you will devise your own, long-term protections for the site of a dangerous disaster. Then, as time passes, you'll narrate which protections survived and how they were changed over time.
The game can also be used to establish a dangerous setting for a dungeon crawl, a Trophy incursion, or other perilous adventure.
Inspirations include: The Skeletons, The Quiet Year, The Motel of the Mysteries, and Petrov Day celebrations.

I used a (slightly edited for time) version of this in my risk communication class this semester when we were covering cultural values (and subsequently cultural drift) and they loved it!
That is so lovely to hear! If you remember any highlights of their design or decay, I'm all ears.
